Teaching a Studio & Facilitating a Session

Stepping Stone Explained:

In this stepping stone, I will learn the anatomy of a studio. I will also learn how to facilitate a session.

It is of utmost importance that I know the structure of a studio. All studios have the same structure, so I can know any studio by knowing the structure. I will also need to have a procedure for facilitating so I can help as many students grow on the continua as possible.

To DO:

  1. Watch the introduction videos on "Studio Breakdown Part 1 & 2"

  • Fill out the table on your Digital Learning Journal

  1. Watch the video "Think Aloud: Knowing My Studio"

  • Use your Digital Learning Journal to practice

  1. Watch the videos "Creating Tasks in Slate Part 1 & 2"

  • Use your Digital Learning Journal to practice

1️⃣ studio breakdown part 1 & 2

Learn about the anatomy of a studio in a 2-part video below.

2️⃣ As a facilitator, I need to know...

Think Aloud: Knowing My Studio

  • the competencies being assessed

  • where the competencies are assessed

  • the performance task

  • the structure of the studio

3️⃣ Creating tasks in slate

Teacher Tip:

Make the structure visible in your classroom somehow. Some use big posters to show the tasks or skills!

This example shows students which studio they are in, the task list and what skills are being assessed. It even has the rating skills at the bottom, so students (no matter which portfolio they are in) can see what ratings are required!

Remember, before you move on, fill out your Digital Learning Journal. We will use these at the end of the day!

Both schools are structurally different this year! We will need to talk specifically about facilitation by school. Click on the school you are a teacher at!
