8th Grade Street Art

Week of Nov. 27th, Dec. 4th, & 11th/ Sign Language Wheatpasting Project

Students will be able to learn a technique that many street artists use called Wheatpasting. The students will be able work on a project that speaks to an aspect of diversity that people may not always think about. Students will choose an empowering word to write using sign language. Then they will print the alphabet and cut out the letters needed to make their word using wheatpaste. To finish the project, students will paint into the background using acrylic paint.

Week of Jan. 2nd, 8th, & 16th  / Stencil Project

Students will be able to learn a technique that many street artists use called Stenciling. The theme for this project is up to the student. Many ideas will be shared to get the creative juices flowing.

Week of January 22nd & 29th/ Grid Drawing

Students will be able to learn how street artists use a grid to scale up a drawing or design on a large wall. Then students will make their own grid drawing. They will choose a black and white photo to use as reference.

Week of February 5th & 12th/ Mural Design

Students will be able to draw a design for a mural that will be painted on the Wesley campus. Themes will be discussed closer to the start date.
