6th Grade art

Week of September 6th & 11th, & 18th/ Self- Portrait Project

Students will be able to spend time thinking about different aspects of their identity. Then students will use drawing/painting materials of choice to express aspects of themselves on a puzzle piece. Later the pieces will be put together in a creative way, reminding us that although we experience life in our own unique way, we are connected.

Writing Component: Students will be able to include a haiku poem about themselves

Week of September 25th & Oct. 2nd/ Postcard Project, In Honor of Latinx Month

Students will be able to learn about the art and culture of Colombia. Then students will be able to choose from a variety of places within the country to create a postcard about. Students may choose from a variety of art materials. Later, they will actually be able to mail their postcard to someone.  

Week of October 10th, 15th, & 23rd / Plaster Arms, Working on Form

Students will be able to use their own arm as a mold for a plaster sculpture project. Students spent time prepping by cutting plaster gauze into small pieces. They were also able to see a demonstration on applying the plaster. This week they can make the arm and begin painting it. This is a student driven project so the theme is up to them.

Week of Oct. 30th, Nov. 6th, & 13th/ Room Design, Group Project

Students will be able to design an energy efficient room using mathematical scale computations. Students will be able to use a variety of found objects in conjunction with paint.
