DISTRICT INFORMATION
West End Public School District RE-2 is located in Southwestern Colorado and covers approximately 1,000 square miles. The current district enrollment is 253 students in grades PreK-12. There are 162 students in grades PreK-6 and 91 students in grades 7-12. The district hosts one charter school located in Paradox. The Paradox Valley Charter School serves students PreK-12 and currently has 43 students enrolled.
The professional staff currently includes a District Superintendent, High School Principal, Middle School Principal/Assistant Administrator, Elementary Principal, 21 Certified Teachers, and 40 Classified Personnel.
The district consolidated into two schools during the 2004-2005 school year. Grades PreK-6 are housed in the elementary school located in Naturita; grades 7-12, along with the district administration, are housed at the middle/high school campus in Nucla. The district has two gymnasiums, a wrestling/weight gym with separate locker facilities, and a kitchen facility at the Naturita Elementary School, a football field and a baseball field.
The district has always had a successful extracurricular activities program. During the 2004-2005 school year the district had three state wrestling champions (one of which was the district's first four-time state wrestling champion), as well as second-place and third-place finishers. The district has also had state championships in both football, girl’s basketball and baseball in past years. Although the district no longer sponsors high school football, interested students can join a team from the nearby Norwood School District.
The district works hard to maintain quality education by providing elevated academic classes, vocational and technical training, and special education programs. In addition, the district receives support from the Uncompahgre Board of Cooperative Services. Students throughout the district also have the advantage of excellent technology and the opportunity to obtain multiple college credits prior to graduation.
The parents and community are involved in the school through the booster club and a very active and productive district-wide accountability committee, as well as through building-level accountability committees.

GENERAL INFORMATION
The West End School District is located in the Southwest corner of Colorado. From the West End, it takes approximately 6 hour and 30 minutes to drive to Denver, while smaller cities such as Grand Junction and Montrose can be reached in an average of 2 hours. We are also 2 hours from Moab, Utah.
The four small communities that make up the West End School District are Naturita, Nucla, Paradox and Bedrock. These ranching and farming towns have interesting histories that add to the richness of the area. The construction of the 17 miles of ditch to establish the water supply to the Nucla community in the 1880s, the geologic oddity of Paradox, the historical artifacts and legends of the Ute Native American tribe, the boom years of the 1950s and 1960s that resulted from uranium and vanadium mining and milling operations at Uravan and the iconic Bedrock General Store.
These communities are not only steeped in local history, but are also surrounded by natural beauty. The San Juan Mountains lie to the east, the Lone Cone to the south, the La Sal Mountains to the west, and the Uncompahgre Plateau to the north, with canyon land country bordering the edge of the West End. Outdoor enthusiasts can choose from a variety of year-round activities. Big-game hunting, fishing, hiking, backpacking, mountain bike riding, rock climbing, snowmobiling, and snow skiing are just a few of the recreational possibilities.
Farming and ranching are the main sources of income for the area.
The West End is fortunate to have a medical clinic in Naturita that offers a physician, one physician’s assistant, and a nurse practitioner. Air life services are provided by hospitals in Grand Junction, Montrose and Cortez. The communities also have an excellent volunteer ambulance service and fire department.
Housing is available at reasonable prices in all communities. Listings can be obtained from several local real-estate agencies.
