During the summer between grade 11 and 12 ( 14 July ,2023) I took s small short course, in this short course I was assigned to write about any disease that I was interested in. During the time I had an obsession with proteins and diseases caused by amyloids and prions. So the disease I choose to write about was Alzheimer which is caused by b-amyloid plaques ( theoretically). For this paper I was forced to learn how to write a scientific "essay" / a mock paper, this means I have to learn how to efficiently do research as well as citations. At first I really struggled with finding research since some of the resources are behind a paywall, but with some help from my course director and sci hub I overcame this obstacle via questionable means ( sci hub is illegal at some places I didn't know that at the time). This experience really helped me/honed my research and paper writing skills which came useful when I had to write my background for my IA papers.
"A new challenge may be an unfamiliar experience or an extension of an existing one. The newly acquired or developed skills may be shown through experiences that the student has not previously undertaken or through increased expertise in an established area."
The CAS learning outcome from this experience is second learning outcome " Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process", the reason for this is because, I had to learn how to write a scientific research paper and how to do the Harvard style citation method. It took me awhile to do it since I had no guidance ( except youtube). Because I had no guidance I had to teach myself how to research, write a scientific essay, and of course do the citaiton style. From this experience I learned how to write a scientific essay, do efficient research, and cite in Harvard style.
This is abit after the summer around September 23, previously I bought a suturing kit from Lazada due to me wanting to try it since I didn't get to do any or learn how to do suturing at my time in Oxford. So I tried to teach my self suturing, I used/watched some Youtube videos to teach myself how to do it. But it didn't really help me so I just followed my intuition on suturing ( not a good idea) but I got it done and I think it looks nice. The picture is the best one that I made ( it's the 4th one) and I'm pretty proud of it. This experience helped me learn a new "skill" that could be useful if I get into med school.
Yes I picked the nicest one as my picture

The CAS learning outcome from this experience is second learning outcome " Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process", the reason for this is because I had to teach myself how to suture with the help of youtube videos, at first I was very confused and ruined some of the practicing wounds but after awhile I started to get a hang of it and eventually I perfectly sutured a wound. I learned how to suture which is something I never knew how to do.
