I made a skin cell slide, I used methylene and eosin, I just scraped my skin and then put that to stain the skin cells. This helped with skills to create cellular slides that can help me if I choose to peruse science because now I can create my own slides to analyse them. It took me awhile to make these slides because I had to learn how to do it from scratch since I have no one to guide me I used youtube videos as reference. This activity could help me in the future since I wouldn't struggle at creating slides if I ever get into science
The picture below was a mistake I was suppose to wait for the water to evaporate
I used methylene blue to dye the chromosome of the onion cells , reason I used methylene blue is because it's easy to find and also it wants to stick to negatively charged particles and DNA is negatively charged so it will stick to DNA and make it blue. This helped with with staining genetic material.
The CAS learning outcome from this experience is outcome number 2, the reason is because I had no prior experience on making these slides or doing these stainnings. I only had read about them but never made them so with the help of youtube I was able to make my own slides and do my own methylene blue staining. At first it was difficult since I had no idea how much water should I add when making slides or how much stainning material I should add but with experimentation and trial and error I got the result that I needed/want.
