Dear Incoming Grade 6 Parents/Guardians:

The WMS PTO looks forward to welcoming you and your family to Wellesley Middle School. We are a team of about 60 officers, event chairs, and helpers who facilitate communication between parents and the school, plan community events, and coordinate staff appreciation efforts.

Every Sunday morning, the WMS PTO sends a newsletter filled with information about the upcoming week at school. Reading the newsletter is a wonderful way to build your connection with the school and hear about PTO sponsored events such as: Turkey Promenade, Lunar New Year, French Fete, Mini Marathon, notable guest speakers, author visits, and social events.

You will be subscribed to the newsletter automatically through your WPS PowerSchool account when you receive your house/homeroom assignment in the fall. You may choose to opt-out through PowerSchool at any time, or by sending an email to wmsptoinfo@gmail.com

In addition to school events, the WMS PTO coordinates staff appreciation efforts, professional development, and special school projects that fall outside the district’s annual budget. We recently designed and funded a new WMS school sign for the Kingsbury Street entrance, are working to revive the struggling Japanese maples out front, and plan to provide lawn restoration this spring. Our total expenses annually are $67k to keep all efforts moving forward. We request an annual contribution to fund the budget and truly appreciate your generosity which allows our team to go over and above what’s already an incredible education.

Four times per year, we hold an all-parent meeting on topics such as curriculum updates from department heads, webinars on hot topics like executive function skills, event updates, and a summer reading book fair. Two meetings are held in the evening over zoom, one is in Boston during the evening, and the last is in our WMS Library during lunchtime. Your feedback on pertinent meeting topics is encouraged and always welcome.

There are several opportunities to get involved in the WMS PTO as a new parent such as Library Helper, Nurses Office Helper, Faculty Meeting Hospitality, Creative Arts, Web updates, and event sign-ups to volunteer throughout the year. If you would like to participate at any level, we are actively recruiting for the 2024-2025 school year and would love to hear from you at wmsptoinfo@gmail.com

We look forward to helping you make sixth grade a wonderful year at Wellesley Middle School. Welcome!

Warmly,

Katie Sullivan & Annie Oh
