Fitness
Activity Goals and Expectations:
Educate and motivate students to learn and practice healthy habits
Present a wide spectrum of ways to engage students' physical activity to increase fitness levels
Encourage students to see the “big picture” of their health
Positive participation: appropriate clothing, respectful manner, prepared to learn, and open to new ideas
The Program:
Build upon skills learned in elementary schools
Introduce students to a wide variety of small group games, fitness activities, and sports
Provide a comfortable teaching atmosphere where all students can reach their goals and feel success
Introduction to the fitness center and strength training
Other activities may include: jogging, rollerblading, orienteering, badminton, basketball, aerobics, volleyball, indoor soccer, dance, tennis, lacrosse, ultimate Frisbee, etc.
Fitness Fridays:
Aid students in weight management, enjoyment of activity, and prevention of sedentary lifestyle diseases
Main Goal: increase students’ cardiovascular strength and endurance through a sustained fitness activity
Possible activities: Jogging, walking, fitness golf, fitness stations, etc.
Events:
Turkey Promenade: Community service event that benefits “Voices Against Violence” & the Wellesley Food Pantry.
Mini-Marathon: Students have the opportunity to set jogging goals in the spirit of the Boston Marathon.
Intramurals:
After-School activities on a drop-in basis
Activity Card covers the fee for all after school programs for the whole year
Choices may include: open gym, indoor soccer, fitness center, fencing, and badminton
Health - Working on Wellness
“Working on Wellness” is a semester long class that is broken up into three sections: Introduction to Wellness, Nutrition/Food Preparation and “Get Real “ Sexuality Education.
