This course is especially for the musician who wishes to study in-depth the elements of rhythm, melody and harmony. It builds upon all previous musical experiences. As a result of taking the course, students will be able to manipulate the sounds and symbols of music through writing, reading, hearing and playing. Assignments, exams, original compositions and aural and written skill development will be used to evaluate student progress.
Students are prepared to meet the rigor and intensity of college level course work. The course is based on the syllabus developed by the College Board for AP Music Theory. Areas of study will include form analysis, arranging, composition and historical styles. Assignments, exams, original compositions and aural and written skill development will be used to evaluate student progress.
