Concert Choir is open to ninth graders who have successfully completed 8th grade chorus or who have obtained permission of the director. Students refine their technical skills and further their understanding of music through analyzing, evaluating and creating music. A variety of standard and contemporary choir literature is performed in 3-4 major concerts per year. Attendance at all concerts is required. Interested and capable students are eligible to participate in All-County and Area All-State music festivals, Monroe County solo/ensemble festivals and NYSSMA solo/ensemble festivals. NOTE: 9th grade Soprano and Alto students will be enrolled in this course.
Chorale is open to all students in grades 10-12 who have successfully completed Concert Choir or who have obtained permission of the director, along with 9th grade Tenors and Basses. In Chorale, students will continue to develop and apply the fundamentals of proper vocal technique through physical and vocal exercises. Emphasis is placed on learning to understand and create music. Possible additional activities include exchange concerts, performing tours, and concerts at other district schools. Interested and capable students are eligible to participate in All-County, Area All- State and All-State music festivals, Monroe County solo/ensemble festivals and NYSSMA solo/ensemble festivals.
Select Choir is open to students in grades 9-12 who have been selected by audition, and who are dedicated to learning and performing advanced, standard choir literature. Select Choir is intended for students who have a desire to achieve a high level of artistry and musicianship on their instrument. Students refine their technical skills and further their understanding of music through analyzing, evaluating and creating music. Interested and capable students are encouraged to participate in All-County, Area All- State and All-State music festivals, Monroe County solo/ensemble festivals and NYSSMA solo/ensemble festivals.
Voice class is open to students who are currently in Concert Choir, Chorale or Select Choir or who have obtained permission of the teacher. Voice Class is designed for students who are interested in learning the fundamentals of proper vocal technique through the performance of solo vocal repertoire. Students will learn how to produce a free, energized and consistent tone; sing expressively and with confidence; and gain a better understanding of basic anatomy of the singing voice. Body alignment, breath and vocal exercises will be practiced consistently. Students will develop strategies for learning a song and performing it effectively. Individual and small group performances of a wide variety of musical styles will be analyzed on a regular basis. A spring solo recital performance is required.
