Concert Orchestra is open to all students in grades 9-12 who have successfully completed a prior orchestra or who have obtained permission from the director. In Orchestra, students will continue to develop technical skills and musicianship on their individual instrument, and will perform music of many different styles. Attendance at all concerts and at a weekly rotating lesson is required. Possible additional activities include exchange concerts, performing tours, and concerts at other district schools. Interested students are eligible to participate in All-County, Area All-State and All-State music festivals, Monroe County solo/ensemble festivals and NYSSMA solo/ensemble festivals. Students will also have the opportunity to rehearse with Concert Band students for a “full” orchestra experience.
Philharmonic Orchestra is open to students in grades 9-12 who have been selected by audition. Philharmonic Orchestra is intended for students who have a desire to achieve a high level of artistry and musicianship on their instrument, while building on the technical skills acquired through previous orchestra experience. Music performed in Philharmonic Orchestra is selected from standard and contemporary orchestra literature. Attendance at all concerts and at a weekly rotating lesson is required. Possible additional activities include exchange concerts, performing tours, and concerts at other district schools. Interested and capable students are encouraged to participate in All-County, Area All-State and All-State music festivals, Monroe County solo/ensemble festivals and NYSSMA solo/ensemble festivals. Students will also have the opportunity to rehearse with Wind Ensemble students for a “full” orchestra experience.
