Your responsibilities in counselling

Your responsibilities as a student

If you choose to use the counselling services, the School Counsellor/School Social Worker has responsibilities towards you, which includes protecting your privacy and confidentiality.

If you attend counselling during lesson time, you are expected to catch up on any coursework that you may have missed because you attending counselling.

You will need to complete this coursework in your own time.

2. Responding to emails

Counselling appointments are scheduled via email. Therefore, students need to read and respond to emails from their counsellor in a timely manner.

If the counsellor cannot get hold of a student, they may have to remove the student from counselling.

3. Showing up on time

Students who attend counselling are expected to attend their appointments on time.

If students miss or do not attend the booked appointments on a regular basis, the counsellors will need to discuss this with the Head of Year/House, and may have to remove the student from counselling.

4. Notifying if you can't make it

Sometimes you cannot make it to your counselling appointment: Plans change, things happen. If you need to reschedule or cancel, please email your counsellor as soon as possible.

If you can, inform your counsellor at least 24 hours ahead of time (or earlier). The earlier you inform your counsellor, the more likely it is that the time slot can go to another student who needs counselling.

5. Respecting fellow students

The counselling services are there for all students at SIS. Please remember that many students may want to attend counselling for their own personal reasons.

You can show kindness and respect towards these fellow students by showing up your own appointments on time. You can also be a positive role model by respecting other students' privacy and their decisions to go to counselling.

6. Observing school policies

As a member of the SIS community, you are responsible for respecting and observing the school policies.

These include the following key policies, among others:
