Medical Concerns
Please direct medical concerns to our Student Services Guidance Technician, Ms. Gina Kentopp, at 919-554-8440 ext. 22440 and your call will be directed to the nurse, if necessary. The nurse operates on a part-time schedule and can be reached by school personnel in case of emergency. Any student with a temperature of 100.4 or more should remain at home and must be fever free, without medications, for 24 hours before returning to school.
Medications at school
All medication issues and concerns should be directed to Student Services. If medication for a student's well-being and ability to function in school cannot be scheduled outside the school day, school officials may administer the medication if one of the following criteria is met:
All prescription medication may ONLY be administered to students by school staff if the parent/guardian has submitted "The Parent Request and Physician's Order for Medication Form 1702." This form can be found on our website and must be properly completed and signed by both parent/guardian and physician. The medication, along with the proper documentation, must be brought to school by a parent/guardian and signed in at Student Services.
All medication forms are updated at the beginning of the school year and/or anytime there is a change in prescription.
Students may carry one dose of over-the-counter medication for relief of minor discomforts. All medication must be kept in its original packaging. Any student carrying a bottle with more doses or is sharing medication will be investigated for possible suspension.
Students may self-medicate with asthma inhalers or epipens if ordered by their doctor. There must be a 1702 form (English version or En Español) completed and on file in the health room. This is a prescription medication and staff should have information on file about the medication.
Additional information on WCPSS Medication Policies and Procedures can be found in the WCPSS Student/Parent Handbook.
