These small groups are typically offered once a year. Students are able to sign up on their own or by teacher/parent referral. Parent permission is required for participation in these groups and further information is provided by the counselor.
Mindfulness:
Group lessons once a week throughout the school year. Students can join in or opt out as needed. Students that experience anxiousness or levels of stress would benefit. We will practice meditation, deep breathing and other calming strategies/techniques. Student that participate will become more aware of their thoughts, feelings and body sensations for better overall management strategies.
Skills for Success:
8 small group sessions to promote understanding of learning styles, organization, goal setting, time management, note taking skills, and beneficial at home study habits. Students will have plenty of practice opportunities to understand the skills learned.
Anger Management:
8 small group sessions to explore the causes of anger and ways to react to anger-provoking situations in a healthy manner. The lessons will consist of practicing skills and strategies related to understanding one’s anger and controlling one’s own behavior.
Friendship Group:
8 small group sessions to learn the secrets to having good friendships while discovering how to make new friends. Group members will identify important qualities of a friend and learn how to handle common friendship problems.
Family Life Change:
Helping members cope with the stress of family life change. Students are taught coping skills and learn how to constructively deal with typical issues associated with a family life change.
