Created this school year by a wonderful and artistic parent volunteer, our robot greets visitors as they enter the library. It was made using recycled library books and other materials and students voted on the name.
This new library program raised a total of $1800 for the school library in the 2019-20 school year. Families donated $15 for a new library book in celebration of a student's birthday.
Sep. 2019 - Scott Reintgen Visit with 4th/5th Grade (All Tracks)
Local author Reintgen spoke with students about his middle grade fantasy book Saving Fable.
Working in partnership with the school PTA Cultural Arts program, students had the option to purchase a signed copy of the book through Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh.
Oct. 2019 - Family Partnership Night
The school library went mobile! Books were available for check out and students and their families could play games brought from the library.
This event took place outside a community center where fall parent teacher conferences were held.
Jan. 2020 - S.T.E.A.M Night in the School Library
This was the 2nd year that the school library participated in S.T.E.A.M. night. Activities included:
-Sphero robots maze led by our STEM teacher, Ms. Laug
-Creativity stations (including Lego challenges, recycled book pages origami) facilitated by our AIG teacher, Ms. Taranto and SLMC, Ms. Fox
-iPad stations set up for voting on library robot's name
March 2020 through June 2020 - Remote Learning
Salem Sings Event - As part of the yearly PBIS celebration, a virtual singing event was created to showcase students and staff in being a mystery singer or submitting a lip sync video.
Aladdin play going ahead remotely with Ms. Calvert
Flipgrid Read Alouds - Organized by Ms. Bigham, staff members recorded read alouds that were shared with students and families
