Collaboration between classroom teachers and the school library media program are highlighted with one example for each grade level:
Kindergarten - Ongoing practice with devices and reinforcing safe and responsible technology use (Quarter 3/Quarter 4)
School Library/Technology - In the 3rd quarter, Kindergarten students practiced logging in to Chromebooks and signing in to their classroom Epic! accounts using their QR codes. Kindergarten teachers brought their class devices along with library devices so that the ratio was 1 to 1 for these sessions.
In the 4th quarter, responsible technology use was reinforced as students practiced using iPads to access ebooks on the Epic app and using the Safari browser to access the PebbleGo database.
1st Grade - Country Research Project (Quarter 3)
Classroom - Teachers introduced country of study, read related fiction and nonfiction texts, and students created crafts to represent that country.
School Library - In groups of 2-3, students used research resources in the library, including print and online books and the database PebbleGo, to complete a graphic organizer with facts about their country.
Technology - Students used their graphic organizer to create a Google slideshow about their country.
2nd Grade - Sound Unit (Quarter 2)
Classroom - In science, students learned about the properties of sound.
School Library - Fiction and nonfiction texts about sound were featured during read aloud time in the library and students researched different types of musical instruments using Britannica School. After watching a video clip about the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura (Paraguay) and using what they had learned about how instruments make sound, students used recycled materials to create their own musical instrument.
3rd Grade - Adaptations and the Wide World of Frogs (Quarter 2)
Classroom - Students chose a species of frog to research
Library - Hyper Doc created to aid students with their research
Technology - Students showed their learning by creating a Google Slides presentation about their frog
Art - Students created a clay model of their frog
In the second quarter, the third grade EL module focused on frogs. Students were tasked with conducting research on a species of frog, creating a Google slide show to show their learning in Technology class and making a clay model of their frogs in art class. Parents were invited to attend the showcase in the third grade classrooms.
Parents and teachers were invited to attend this event in the classroom. Students presented their slideshow and frogs.
4th Grade - iMovie Trailer for Shark Tank Project (Quarter 4)
Classroom - Shark Tank project where student inventions were marketed to "investors" in a final competition attended by parents and a panel of judges.
School Library/Technology - All 4th grade students attended a lesson on ethical use of online images for school projects. Students who wanted to create an iMovie trailer to promote their inventions attended sessions in the library to work on their projects before saving them to their Google drives to show them to parents and judges during the final presentation.
Classroom - EL Module 3 focused on athletes and social change
School Library - Students used online resources to research an athlete of their choice and create a Google slideshow presentation that included a #Gamechanger slide (this school year's theme). Some of thes slides were chosen to be featured on the weekly morning news program.
