This elective is based on Carl Orff's sequential approach to music learning. Students will be exposed to a variety of activities (singing, rhymes, dancing, keeping a beat, and playing instruments) that will enhance their natural way of learning music.
In Orff-estra, students will use barred instruments (often referred to as Orff instruments) to become more sensitive listeners and considerate participants as they play together in an ensemble. We will play xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels along with other classroom percussion instruments.
These instruments possess unique sound qualities, which make parts clear, well-defined and an excellent tool for beginning ensembles. We will play to accompany storytelling and movement, learn folk songs, and create music of our own.
