We love having ALL students in the library, before school, after school, during lunch, and any time they need individual support or are with a class. Our library is a busy place but our students are learning how to maintain a work environment while still collaborating and creating amazing things! Join us for an LC Unplugged during lunch sometime and check out all our amazing Manga right under the brand new student-created Manga Mural!
Our digital environment
We give students access 24/7 through our library website linked above. Students can search for a book directly on our catalog, request it via a Google form (or ask other questions), ask direct questions through our live chat box and then there are the scads of resources linked: the research zone is a one-stop shop for research that can be accessed anytime, there are tutorials and tech tools, links to student work and more.
Library Media Studies elective
We run our class using the 4C's as the foundation. We switched how we run this class in the spring of 2018 treating it like an internship with on-the-job evaluations, formative and summative assessments, and empowering students to run our Literacy Week and Geek Week through research-based PBLs. We have been thrilled with the results and are currently rewriting the Library Media Studies curriculum for the entire county.
Spreadsheet with Resources Linked
We have always co-taught lessons on anything from research to literacy to technology, but we are so busy that we have put it all in a digital spreadsheet complete with lesson resources and email reminders. I am really proud of the work we've done with research, digital portfolios, and our freshman orientations. We love supporting our teachers as we can be an additional expert for students to know and use. I truly believe the most valuable resource in the library are the librarians.

The hub of learning
So many collaborative spaces
"Knights of the Maker Table," our Makerspace
The Studio... a hopping space always in use!
In the Spring of 2015, I was asked to redesign the library at KHSCD and bring it into the 21st century with a warm, welcoming environment. With a team of WCPSS experts, some funding, and a new teammate, we did just that. Our LC is one of the busiest places in the school with hundreds of students choosing to spend their mornings, lunches, and after-school time with us, not to mention the number of classes that come down daily for resources or co-teaching lessons with us. We are often booked solid a week in advance, yet we still manage to stay open for full student access throughout the day.
