Favorite Book: "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon
As an educator for over 20 years, I have experience with the wee ones all the way up to adult learners, and I love them all. I imagine that's why I became a specialist; I started this journey as an elementary music teacher and an opera singer on the side. Life and learning led me to two other passions, literacy and technology, the perfect mix for a librarian. Some say librarians are a dying breed... I say "old school" librarians are, but librarians with an innovative mindset, effective teaching practices, and a thirst for professional growth are essential in navigating this information age. At KHS, we strive to make the Learning Commons the hub of our school, a safe space for all, with access to high quality literature and research materials as well as technology, collaborative learning spaces, a makerspace, a music studio, and (most importantly) two librarians who love kids and making sure they and their teachers have what they need. If I had to describe myself in a few words, I would say that I am energetic with an extremely high work ethic; think Energizer Bunny on caffeine, with a superpower of consistency. Thankfully, my experience has taught me how to work in many different environments and, more importantly, how to be a valuable, collaborative teammate, my favorite way to teach. You can catch me outside of work kickboxing, reading, knitting, or planning a trip with my family of two teenage daughters and hubby.
