Standard 1: School library media coordinators demonstrate leadership.
a. SLMCs lead in the school library media center and media program to support student success.
Set routines and behavior expectations, focused on for first month of school and reviewed every week at beginning of every class.
Recruit, train and supervise parent and community volunteers, IAs and subs to assist in the Media Center with sorting, shelving, checkin, inventory and other tasks as needed. Recruitment email
Re-established and trained Junior Librarians with 3rd-5th grade students to assist with circulation and sorting returned books.
Use CMAPP and ISTE standards in lesson planning to align instruction
Chair the Media and Technology Advisory Committee (MTAC)
Facilitate district-wide cohort - for SLMC's working on NBCT certification (both initial and MOC) - and provide individual coaching and feedback on written components and video segments.
b. SLMCs lead in their schools.
Provide group and one-on-one professional development to Specialist Team in creating a Google Site to post lessons and resources for the Kindergarten Discovery Special.

Standard 2: School library media coordinators build a learning environment that meets the instructional needs of a diverse population of students.
a. SLMCs establish a learning environment that facilitates access to resources and addresses the learning needs of all members of the school community.
b. SLMCs provide appropriate resources, services, and instruction for learners at all stages of development.
Troubleshoot and submit HelpDesk tickets for students and staff
Provide tech support to staff and students
Provide instruction about online safety and digital citizenship with K-5 students using Common Sense and NetSmartzKids.
Use read alouds (full books and just sections), book talks, student surveys and student share-outs to cultivate and support students' reading interests
Standard 3: School library media coordinators implement a comprehensive 21st Century library media program.
a. SLMCs develop a library collection that supports 21st Century teaching and learning.
Provide opportunities for students to share with each other what they have been reading, and shared students' reading suggestions with other classes and grades.
Book talk books to students, read alouds (complete books and exerpts), and video clips made from books, both fiction and non-fiction to grow student interests and understanding of using different types of resources for various informational needs.
Continue to curate browsing bins for popular series, topics, reading levels and student requests.
Continue to pull non-fiction titles on the Kindergarten/1st grade level to place in the Everyone Non-Fiction browsing carts.
Maintain collection, which is aligned with and supports the NC Standard Course of Study, and contains books (print and electronic) to support student's recreational and informational needs
Continue working on Collection Management Plan for PGES.
b. SLMCs serve, promote and facilitate inquiry-based instruction and the effective use of information and technology.
As Tech Contact serve as initial contact for tech issues
Follow-up and troubleshoot HelpDesk tickets for staff and students assigned to PGES through the HelpDesk portal when able, and reassign to Tech Services as appropriate.
Would like direction on how I can "make [my] skills and expertise . . .[and] resources of the library media center flexibly available and easily accessible. . ." on a fully fixed schedule.
Would like direction on how to "illustrate the connection between an open and flexibly scheduled library media program, collaboration with classroom teachers, and student learning."
Standard 4: School library media coordinators demonstrate knowledge of learners and learning and promote effective instructional practices.
a. SLMCs use effective pedagogy to infuse content-area curricula with 21st Century skills.
Used Digital Choice Boards that integrate 21st Century skills & content with 1st-5th grades throughout the year to provide participatory learning experiences using technology, typically on Fridays but also with subs.
Collaborate with homeroom, CCR and ESL teachers to differentiate assignments for students where appropriate.
b. SLMCs know the content appropriate to their teaching specialty.
Utilize lessons from Common Sense to teach digital citizenship and information literacy, such as this lesson.
Utilize Learning Central and CMAPP 2.0 to access grade level classroom objectives and standards, as well as NC Information and Technology Essential Standards for K-5 when planning instruction
Use the district-encouraged research model eWISE when teaching students about finding information
Lead MTAC in continuing the WakeForward initiative
Participate in district PLT for SLMCs and Tech Contacts to participate in discussions about content, technology use and resources and ethical, safe, appropriate use of information & technology resources.

c. SLMCs promote reading as a foundational skill for learning.
Make book recommendations based on student requests and interests as shown from circulation data, worn out books that had to be weeded and student surveys.
Continue to add non-fiction titles to the Kindergarten/1st grade level to place in the Everyone Non-Fiction browsing carts.
Read alouds in Media Specials on occasion to demonstrate reading fluency, expose students to a variety of types of books, to connect to core curriculum content and to support social emotional learning. Ex: This fall included Jake Drake, Bully Buster by Andrew Clements, which I read to 4th and 5th grades in conjunction with the Guidance Counselor's unit on bullying
Work with PTA to support the Book Fair

As Tech Contact troubleshoot technology issues & submit helpdesk tickets for those I am unable to resolve on my own, follow-up on HelpDesk tickets assigned to PGES & either troubleshoot & resolve or reassign to Tech Services when appropriate, and provide tech support for students and families.
Reads WakeMedia Monthly and stays on-top of emails and information disseminated from Digital Learning & Libraries, Tech Services and Library Media Services.
