Standard 1: School library media coordinators demonstrate leadership.
a. SLMCs lead in the school library media center and media program to support student success.
Set routines and behavior expectations, focused on for first month of school and reviewed every week at beginning of every class. Behavior expectations are also posted.
Recruit, train and supervised parent and HS student volunteers, IAs and subs to assist in the Media Center with sorting, shelving, checkin, inventory and other tasks as needed.
Rearranged physical space this year to accommodate Covid guidelines while maintaining multiple learning spaces, which in turn allowed accommodation of *staff to work with individual students and/or small groups* at the same time as Media Specials in the Media Center. (*guidance counselor with one or more students and 1st grade IA with small groups on a regular/recurring basis*)
Use CMAPP and ISTE standards in lesson planning to align instruction
Chair the Media and Technology Advisory Committee (MTAC)
Facilitate two district-wide cohorts - one for SLMC's working on initial NBCT certification and one for SLMC's working on MOC for NBCT - and provide individual coaching and feedback on written components and video segments.

Participated in staff survey with response of something such as "same concerns as expressed at the end of last year" in regards to question about concerns relating to job/position, meaning still need additional permanent staff and/or change in teaching schedule for the Media/Tech program in order to complete all necessary tasks, duties and responsibilities of SLMC and Tech Contact.

Taught a mini-unit about poetry to students 3-5, which ended in their original poetry being submitted to the American Library of Poetry and the Young American Poetry Digest national student contests.
Used read alouds (full books and just sections), book talked, student surveys and student share-outs to cultivate and support students' reading interests
Collaborated with homeroom, CCR and ESL teachers to differentiate assignments for students where appropriate.
Standard 3: School library media coordinators implement a comprehensive 21st Century library media program.
a. SLMCs develop a library collection that supports 21st Century teaching and learning.
Provide opportunities for students to share with each other what they have been reading, and shared students' reading suggestions with other classes and grades.
Book talk books to students, read alouds (complete books and exerpts), and video clips made from books, both fiction and non-fiction to grow student interests and understanding of using different types of resources for various informational needs.
Created browsing bins for popular series, topics, reading levels and student requests. This project was started prior to attending NCTIES but was reinforced after attending this session.
Pulled Early Reader books out of Everyone section and created separate section for students needing/wanting beginning reading leveled books
Maintain collection, which is aligned with and supports the NC Standard Course of Study, and contains books (print and electronic) to support student's recreational and informational needs
Continued work on Collection Management Plan for PGES.
b. SLMCs serve, promote and facilitate inquiry-based instruction and the effective use of information and technology.
As Tech Contact serve as initial contact for tech issues
Follow-up and troubleshoot HelpDesk tickets for staff and students assigned to PGES through the HelpDesk portal when able, and reassign to Tech Services as appropriate.
Would like direction on how I can "make [my] skills and expertise . . .[and] resources of the library media center flexibly available and easily accessible. . ." on a fully fixed schedule.
Would like direction on how to "illustrate the connection between an open and flexibly scheduled library media program, collaboration with classroom teachers, and student learning."
Standard 4: School library media coordinators demonstrate knowledge of learners and learning and promote effective instructional practices.
a. SLMCs use effective pedagogy to infuse content-area curricula with 21st Century skills.
Used Digital Choice Boards that integrate 21st Century skills & content with 1st-5th grades throughout the year to provide participatory learning experiences using technology, typically on Fridays but also with subs.
Utilized JamBoard and Padlet with students

Utilize lessons from Common Sense to teach digital citizenship and information literacy, such as this lesson.

Facilitate district-wide cohort for SLMCs working on initial certification with National Board for Professional Teaching to "support other educators in the effective use of information resources, best practices in research, multiple literacies, digital safety, and the ethical use of information and technology resources."
c. SLMCs promote reading as a foundational skill for learning.
Make book recommendations based on student requests and interests as shown from circulation data, worn out books that had to be weeded and student surveys.
Created new Early Reader section and added non-fiction titles that fall into the Early Reader category and spent a week sharing these two areas with Kindergarten and 1st graders as places to find books to help them with their emerging reading skills and to learn about popular interest topics and characters. While started prior to attending NCTIES, this initiative was further encouraged after attending this session.
Read alouds in Media Specials on occasion to demonstrate reading fluency, expose students to a variety of types of books, to connect to core curriculum content and to support social emotional learning. For example, I read from There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom by Louis Sachar and discussed issues related to bullying with 3rd through 5th graders. I read The Bad Guys by Aaron Blabey to 2nd & 3rd graders to get their interest in a book series that has a tv show and movie, which they were familiar with and followed up with a discussion of books that have been made into movies.

As Tech Contact troubleshoot technology issues & submit helpdesk tickets for those I am unable to resolve on my own, follow-up on HelpDesk tickets assigned to PGES & either troubleshoot & resolve or reassign to Tech Services when appropriate, and provide tech support for students and families.
Reads WakeMedia Monthly and stays on-top of emails and information disseminated from Digital Learning & Libraries, Tech Services and Library Media Services.
