My Maps

From: Kristin Terry, Carroll Magnet Middle School, kdterry@wcpss.net, @msterrysworld:

My Maps is a Google Site in which students can create their own maps. Their instructions were to drop a pin at the location of this artifact on the map, add a picture, and add supporting information regarding the artifact.

More information, links, and examples below.

HyperDoc with sample instructions.

  • We did not use this exact HyperDoc with students but we stole a lot of ideas from it. It's very informative and easy to follow.

Student Instruction Slideshow.

  • Basic slideshow with instructions for students on workdays.

Student Planning Sheet.

  • We required students to complete this planning sheet before they were able to being using the My Maps Site. Students can easily copy and paste information over from their planning sheet to the My Maps Site.

My Maps How To Video.

  • Once students were done with their planning sheet, they watch video and were ready to create their map pins!

Final Product Example.

  • Example of amazing student work!
  • Each class was given their own map, so I had a total of 4 maps at the end of the project. Each student group was assigned a layer within the map so all students could work at the same time without worrying about messing up their classmate's work.
