Drawing 1 will include work in the following areas: pencil, pen & ink, oil & chalk pastels and mixed media. Instructional strategies in this class will include discussions and studio activities in both small and large group settings. To aid student learning, resources such as slides, reproductions, art materials, websites, journals, and texts may be utilized. Students will complete 4-5 major art projects, emphasizing the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Students explore general Art History and are introduced to "objectively viewing their own Art, and learn constructive criticism". While students are encouraged to always create art at home, most projects can be completed in class with the time given. Students that cannot complete projects using class time need to take artwork home to complete (homework).
Students learn that art is "MOORE" than just a pretty picture. Art captures cultural heritage and and human history. We learn about how past events and human emotions affect artists and their creations and in turn, students learn to place value on the artwork they view and create.
There are 6 PHASES of Art History to learn at Moore Square. ( CHECK THE PAGE HERE ) Students will explore one phase at a time and proceed to the next phase after reviewing thier information in their digital portfolios.
Students continually work to hone their drawing skills daily. These drawings and exercises will broaden their use of different media (ex: pencil, color pencil, pastels). They will see their growth progression throughout the class by collecting their work in a "digital portfolio".
Seven "building blocks of art" that all students will need to understand, recognize and utilize in their own works: Color, Line, Value, Shape, Texture, Space and Form
Placing the "building blocks of art" into a framework that communicates ideas and feelings. Learning these seven "guidelines" helps students create strong visual ideas: Balance, Contrast, Pattern, Rhythm, Movement, Emphasis and Unity.
