About the Commander Marching Band
The Commander Marching Band is open to students in grades 7-12 who play an instrument and/or colorguard. Students perform in various athletic events and marching band compeitions outlined with Kentucky Music Education Association (KMEA) & Mid State Band Association (MSBA). Students learn the marching arts by performing drill, various music styles and other essential skills that tranfer outside of the program.
The Commander Marching Band is known for its state championships in KMEA and MSBA. Most recently in 2025, the ensemble was the winnder in both the KMEA and MSBA championships. Its deep culture and tradition has been continuing for many generations and will continue for all students to learn, grow and succeed. Every season is something new, exciting and different, but the fundamentals remain the same for a marching band.
Students in grades 7-8 have the opprotunity to participate in this as an extra-curricular, but are held to the same standard as HS students. Students in grades 9-12 must be enrolled in General Band to participate in the Commander Marching Band. Student can play their instrument, a secondary instrument or be apart of the colorguard.
There are many opportunities that welcome all students in Washington County Schools. All students participating in marching band must fully attend band camp prior to the start of the school year.
