About Beginning Band
All 6th grade students at Washington County Middle School (WCMS) & North Washington Elementary School (NWES) have the opportunity to learn an instrument of their choice!
Students can learn flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium or percussion!
Students enrolled in Beginning Band 6 will have the opportunity to gain the proper foundation and musicality skills on their selected instrument (brass, woodwind or percussion). Students will learn basic elementary knowledge of music theory, foundational tone production, music literacy and performance skills to use during individual & ensemble practices.
Students will showcase skills learned through activities & performances throughout the school year. Performances may occur outside of class time, which students will be required to attend as a part of their grade.
Beginning Band Resources
Students will learn the foundation of their instrument with handouts from the director & method book, Habits of a Successful Beginning Band Musician. All other information will be shared on the student's Google Classroom.

Performances
Beginning Band will perform at least 2 concerts a year. The first one is in December around the holiday season while the second one is at the end of the school year. In between, students continue to learn the foundation of music theory, how to play notes, creating sound, and other essential skills to prepare them for their studies in band.
