Mr. Zachary Huwalt | zachary.huwalt@washington.kyschools.us
Mr. Zachary Huwalt is establishing his career as the districtwide band director for Washington County Schools. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Mr. Huwalt has been invloved in band from a young age. As he advanced his studies, he attended the University of Kentucky studying music education. He became actively involved in the Wildcat Marching Band (WMB), where he served as the Uniform Manager and eventually first-ever Operations Team Coordinator, which managed the equipment, uniforms, personnel and band council teams to serve the WMB.
Mr. Huwalt also participated in the UK Concert Band, Lab Band, Philharmonia, Trombone Choir, Tau Beta Sigma and its first-ever BOOMCats Boomwhacker club, which he established. He helped served the UK Bands and others around him in any shape and form. At UK, he also became activley involved with the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), which he still maintains his membership. Mr. Huwalt's goal is to always provide a fostering environment, where he encourages his students to succeed as a musician and well-rounded individual.
Mr. Huwalt graduated cum laude in December 2025 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. He began his career as a long-term middle school band substitute in the Mt. Lebanon School District back in Pittsburgh, PA, which he worked alongside with his band director who inpsired him to be a music teacher!
Outside of a busy music schedule, Mr. Huwalt is an Eagle Scout. He enjoys going outdoors, seeing his friends & families, going on rollercoasters and traveling to various places. Mr. Huwalt has 3 siblings: Maura, Joshua & Daniel and a pet dog named Luna.

Jordan Hayes is one of our Commander Marching Band staff members providing beneficial feedback to as the Assistant Band Director. We are very fortunate to have him apart of our Commander Band Family!
Mrs. Candace Hernandez
Candace Hernandez is one of our Commander Marching Band staff members providing beneficial feedback to our wind players, especially our brass instrumentalists. We are very fortunate to have him apart of our Commander Band Family!
Mr. Hunter Hall
Hunter Hall is one of our Commander Marching Band staff members providing beneficial feedback to our percussionists. We are very fortunate to have him apart of our Commander Band Family!
Mr. Steve Satterfield
Steven Satterfield has been the color guard director and choreographer for the Washington County Commander band for over 20 years. Mr. Satterfield started working with the group in 2005 and the group made state finals the following year and has been a consistent state finalist ever since.
Mr. Satterfield was a member of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle corps and a graduate of Paoli High School of Indiana. He has taught, choreographed, and designed shows for groups from coast to coast. He has taught Paoli High School for over 20 years, Washington County High School for over 20 years and Madison Consolidated High School for over 20 years. Some of the groups he has taught are; Bedford North Lawrence, Monrovia, Columbus East, Bridgman, Paoli, Southwestern, Bishop Dwenger, Madison Consolidated, Salem, and Jasper and Campbellsville University to name a few.
His groups have been state finalist over 50 times and have won 9 State Titles, Bands of America Grand National Finalist, BOA Regional Finalist, SCAU National color guard Champions, Tri State Marching Arts Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medalist, 5 Midstates Titles, Sound Sport Championship title, and WGI regional finalists. The Washington County Commander Guard has enjoyed having more than 5 undefeated seasons in color guard as well.
Ms. Megan Hill
Megan is a 2010 graduate of Washington County High School. She was a member of the Color Guard from 2005-2009. In her time as a performer she was a state finalist four times including 2008 and 2009 when they were named class 2A Champions. She also marched with the Campbellsville University Tiger Marching band where she served as captain for one year. She has been a member of the staff since 2019. She loves this program and is happy to be a part of helping kids find their place in this program.
She enjoys bringing her son Silas to practice and watching him grow up around this program and develop a love for music.
