About Intermediate Band
Students in 7th & 8th grade will continue to learn instrument foundation and grow their skills in preparation for the high school level. Students also have the opportunity for more performances and advanced levels of their instrument choice, if ready.
Possible explorations include tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trombone w/ attatchments, expansion of percussion, and other areas of student interest. Families with questions should reach out to the Band Director first.
Students enrolled in Intermediate Band 7/8 will expand their foundation and musicality skills on their selected instrument (brass, woodwind or percussion). Students will expand their knowledge with advanced tone production, complex rhythmic patterns, skills such as articulations, dynamics and other musicality abilities. Additionally, students will explore various time signatures, music literacy, music theory and other performance opportunities.
Students will showcase their skills in activities and performances, which is a part of their grade. Performances may occur outside of class time, which students will be required to attend as part of their grade.
Intermediate Band Resources
Intermediate Band students will have handouts given by the Band Director throughout the school year. These 2 years are pivotal as it prepares them for many opportunities once they arrive in high school.
Students use the next level in the Habits book series, Habits of a Successful Intermediate Band Musician. Additional information will be available on the student's Google Classroom.
Performances
Intermediate Band students will perform for a winter & spring concert. However, there are other opportunities too. Students will have exposure in marching band, a Veteran's Day performance with the HS students, and assessment towards the end of the school year.
Students have the opportunity to join the Jazz Band, Colorguard, and the Commander Marching Band as an extra-curricular. Additionally, students are welcome to participate in the HS pep band performances.
