Dyslexia Awareness Month & Computer Learning Month

"Harry--I think I've just understood something! I've got to go to the library!"

And she sprinted away, up the stairs.

"What does she understand?" said Harry distractedly, still looking around, trying to tell where the voice had come from.

"Loads more than I do," said Ron, shaking his head.

"Why why's she got to go to the library?"

"Because that's what Hermione does," said Ron, shrugging. "When in doubt, go to the library."

Librarian Update

The school year is off to a great start! We had over 4,500 visits to the library during the month of September, including 48 classes. Class time included literary analysis research, science fair research, book talks, and more. Student research assignments are underway across many subjects and the library calendar continues to fill. Subjects utilizing the library classrooms break down as follows:

  • Art - 1 teacher & 5 classes
  • English & Reading - 5 teachers & 33 classes
  • Health & PE - 1 teacher & 2 classes
  • Math - 1 teacher & 3 classes
  • Science - 3 teachers & 5 classes

Students will begin to see more tutorial videos on the Warwick High School Library Media Center website during this school year. The newest video explains how to search the Power Library website for books outside of our school district. This will be useful for those students in Mr. Badaracco's Honors World History classes and the all levels of English 11, English 12, and AP English. Students can find this video on the Research Guides main page.

350 materials have been checked out so far this year, with the highest day creating 64 checkouts! I am very excited to see what our circulation rates look like this year with our new fiction genre sections.

Featured Book

The Shining by Stephen King

"Jack Torrance's new job at the Overlook Hotel is the perfect chance for a fresh start. As the off-season caretaker at the atmospheric old hotel, he'll have plenty of time to spend reconnecting with his family and working on his writing. But as the harsh winter weather sets in, the idyllic location feels ever more remote . . . and more sinister. And the only one to notice the strange and terrible forces gathering around the Overlook is Danny Torrance, a uniquely gifted five-year-old."
