Compelling Question: Does society change the economy or does the economy change society?

Supporting question: Was Reaganomics Good for america?

We wrapped up our study of the 1970s focusing on the economic weaknesses and challanges that American faced. We will begin our final unit with looking at how Ronald Reagan, elected president in 1980, attempted to address and correct those economic issues.

He famously stated in his inaugural address, "Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the the problem." How does this differ from previous administrations and tell us about his political, economic, and social beliefs?

Tuesday- Wednesday

Compelling Question: Does society change the economy or does the economy change society?

Supporting question: How did Reagan's reigniting of the cold war bring about the end of the cold war?

To build on yesterday's discussion, we will look at the tech boom of the 1980s and then explain how it affected society.

We will then move into the reasons and consequences of Reagan's massive increase in military spending.

Supporting question: How do Economic consequences Effect Foreign Policy?

In January 1989, George H.W. Bush was sworn in as president after serving as vice president during Ronald Reagan's two terms. Bush was meet with an onslaught of foreign events and he had to decide how the United States would respond.

What factors should determine how the US should respond to foreign events?

We will use Bush Foreign Affairs Station Activity to evaluate Bush's response to events in China, Panama, fall of the Soviet Union, and the Middle East.
