Food Nutrition & Wellness

Food Nutrition and Wellness is a course designed to allow students to explore the many aspects of a healthy lifestyle with an emphasis on healthy eating, fitness, food preparation skills and food science applications. At the end of this course students will be able to make better health conscious choices in regards to overall wellness. 

Mastery of standards through project-based learning, technical skills practice, and leadership development activities of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) will provide students with a competitive edge for either entry into the education global marketplace and/or the post-secondary institution of their choice to continue their education and training. Pre-requisite for this course is advisor approval.

Food for Life

Food for Life is an advanced course in food and nutrition that addresses the variation in nutritional needs at specific stages in the life cycle: preconception, pregnancy, lactation, infancy, early childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and geriatrics.  The most common nutritional concerns, their relationship to food choices and health status, and strategies to enhance well-being at each stage are emphasized.  This course provides knowledge for real life experiences and offers students a pathway into careers related to dietetics, nutrition science, and consumer education with an advanced degree

+This course can satisfy the 4th science requirement or a CTAE requirement with one unit of credit.

Food Science

Food science integrates many branches of science and relies on the application of the rapid advances in technology to expand and improve the food supply. Students will evaluate the effects of processing, preparation, and storage on the quality, safety, wholesomeness, and nutritive value of foods. Building on information learned in Nutrition and Wellness and Chemistry, this course illustrates scientific principles in an applied context, exposing students to the wonders of the scientific world in foods and nutrition. Careers will be explored. Food Science is the third of three courses in the nutrition pathway.

FCCLA 

Room 229 - Meets Tuesday mornings at 7:00am or afternoons at 2:50 pm in my room (229 purple hall) once a month typically (dates TBD)

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for young men and women who want to promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential, develop skills for life, travel, make new friends, and help the community through service.
