Utilizing the Georgia Standards of Excellence for Chorus, classes within the Choral Pathway at MAHS will prepare students to pursue music aspirations during their high school careers and beyond. Students will be introduced to basic theory, sight-reading, musical genres, and vocal performance skills. As each semester progresses, new concepts build upon the previous concept (according to individual skill level). Therefore, each week students will review previously covered materials, while learning new concepts and continuing to rehearse for any upcoming performances. All standards and concepts are to assist students in presenting performances of many genres with excellence, as well as prepare them to take part in musical activities beyond high school.
***There will be a chorus for non-auditioned students, as well as an auditioned chorus who will participate in diverse opportunities for upper-level music.***
*Required for completion of a pathway.
Music Appreciation is taught as The History of American Popular Music. The class integrates the history of The United States with the history and progression of Rock and Roll and other forms of popular music. In this class, we will trace the history of Rock and Roll and understand the influences it had on major historical events within the United States and how history guided the development of popular music.
As a general music course, the class will work to understand musical form and function while also including components of other arts including visual arts, video production, multimedia, and graphic design. In addition, the class will contain significant cross-over with core curriculum classes including United States History and Language Arts.
