Happy Friday!
I hope you're all doing well and excited for the weekend. With school wrapping up next week, I want you to remember that one of our most important goals is that you are taking care of yourself, staying physically active, and living a healthy life. The choices you make toward this goal are some of the most important choices you can make to set yourself up for a happy and healthy life.
So, what choices can you make to meet this goal, especially when your "on your own" over the summer? You can choose activities that bring you joy, challenge, or excitement! You can set a workout schedule with goals to hold yourself accountable for your progress. You can even just relax in your backyard and appreciate the fact that you can wake up every day and take charge of your health, physical activity, and happiness.
I hope you've learned some of these things along the way and take to heart how important it is to exercise, play, and enjoy your movement. If you ever need help finding your way towards these goals, just reach out to me and I'll do whatever I can to help.
Have a wonderful weekend my friends!

Good morning PE people!
This is a reminder that you have 3 PE Activity Logs to submit this week AND that your PE Activity Logs should correspond with your PE/Science Hypothesis.
Don't let the weather get you down! You may have to get creative to be active today, but figure out ways to be active in the home. Here's a weather poem to give you some motivation:
Whether the weather be fine, or whether the weather be not. Whether the weather be cold, or whether the weather be hot. We'll weather the weather, whatever the weather, whether we like it or not! -Anonymous

Lesson 4: Phys. Ed. and Science! (4/20/2020)
Phys Ed and Science are teaming up!
At some point today you'll be receiving a science lab where you will be investigating heart rate and physical activity. All of the details of your lab will come from your science teacher, but Miss Fortier and I are going to share some helpful heart rate information with you here today.
Information on how to calculate your heart rate is described in the attached video (thanks Miss Fortier!).
Important terms:
Measuring Heart Rate: Heart rate is the speed of the heartbeat measured by the number of contractions of the heart per minute. Each time the heart contracts, it sends blood out through the body. You can feel that 'pulse' through the major arteries of your body.
Resting Heart Rate: Heart rate when you are not exercising. You should be relaxed and sitting down when you take your resting heart rate.

Lesson 3: Fun Friday! (4/17/2020)
Hello, folks!
It's FUN FRIDAY! While we can't get together and play, we can still find ways to enjoy our physical activity while at home. So, what are you going to do for fun today? I encourage you to pick an activity that you're really going to enjoy! If you need help thinking of an activity, check out VVS' new Family Resources Guide for some great ideas.
What's my choice of physical activity today? A bike ride! Always wear a helmet, ride in a safe place, and let someone know where you're going before you ride.
Objective: Student identifies why self-selected physical activities create enjoyment. (S5.M4.7)
Essential Question: Why does being physically active create enjoyment? For Mr. Miller, there's a lot of answers! I get joy from the fact that I'm improving my health, getting stronger, and creating a better, longer life for myself. What are some reason you enjoy physical activity?

Lesson 2: Stress Relief (4/15/2020)
Hello, folks!
I hope you're doing well and figuring out how to be successful while at home. My topic for today's lesson is stress and stress relief. Positive stress (excitement before a big game or music performance) helps us focus and work hard! Negative stress can affect out bodies and make us feel unmotivated. Accept both positive and negative stress in your life and find ways to deal with them.
Being physically active can help your body relieve physical and emotional stress and helps you stay healthy. I challenge you to try a new method of stress relief by joining me for some yoga!
Have a great day folks!

Lesson 1: Expectations (4/14/2020)
Hello folks! I'll be using this site to deliver lessons going forward.
Today's lesson is about our expectations for Middle School Physical Education while we're home. One of our biggest goals is for you to be physically active so you can live a healthy life and take on whatever challenges come your way. Your physical activity will look different while at home, but it is no less important than our time together in PE
Why are you expected to be physically active?... being physically active boosts your mood, gives you increased energy, relieves stress, and so much more! The PE Activity Log is going to help you analyze your physical activity and put a little extra meaning behind it.
Be physically active as much as possible! The CDC recommends 60 minutes every day and says it's one of the best actions you can take to improve your health.
Submit 3 PE Activity Logs each week (follow these steps):
Choose any physical activity and be active for at least 20 minutes (we recommend getting 60 minutes every day!)
Open the PE Activity Log, found in Google Classroom or Mr. Miller's PE Site
Submit the PE Activity Log (a google form that should take around 5 minutes to complete). This can be submitted after your physical activity session at your earliest convenience, just don't forget the Friday due date each week.
Go to you PE Google Classroom and "Turn-in" or "Mark as done" PE Activity Log #1 for Week of...
Repeat two more times for PE Activity Log #2 for Week of... and PE Activity Log #3 for Week of...
Check the PE Google Classroom Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for lessons with objectives, essential questions, and physical activity suggestions.
Please email me if you have any questions, we can always set up Google Meets to check in, talk PE, or help you find ways to enjoy your physical activity!
As always, have a great day, folks!
-Mr. Miller
