College Application Resources
Seniors
Visalia Unified seniors will launch UC, CSU, COS, and FAFSA applications through https://www.californiacolleges.edu. This step will help automatically populate your A-G high school courses and grades into your college applications. Summer school classes and courses taken at COS will need to be typed into the college applications. To log in to CaliforniaColleges.edu students use their VUSD email. The videos below give you direction on how to launch each of the applications.

Summer before Senior Year:
If you are applying to a UC, start working on the Personal Insight Questions. These are available at https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/how-to-apply/applying-as-a-freshman/personal-insight-questions.html
Start constructing a resume that can be used for scholarship applications or for those writing your letters of recommendation. Tips on writing a resume are available at https://www.californiacolleges.edu
August:
The UC Application opens on August 1 but cannot be submitted until October 1 at the earliest
The Common Application, used for most private colleges, opens on August 1.
Take the SAT or ACT if required by your college of choice. Fee waivers are available, for those who qualify, through your counselor/learning director.

October:
Applications for the UCs may be submitted beginning October 1 and are due no later than November 30.

California State University (CSU) application opens
Applications for the CSUs may be submitted starting October 1 and are due no later than November 30

California Community College Applications, ex: COS, should be completed.

November:
The UC and CSU applications are due by November 30. It is strongly urged that you submit it before November 30. In the past, the UC system has crashed because to many students submitted their applications on November 30.
November to February:
Private College application due dates vary typically from November to January. Check the individual university websites for due dates. Most private colleges use the Common Application.
To qualify for scholarships and financial aid for private colleges, the CSS Profile must be completed in addition to the FAFSA.

March:
The FAFSA (financial aid) or Dream Act is due by March 2

Admission letters are typically mailed to students in March.
April:
Financial aid packages are sent out to students from colleges and universities
May:
The National Reply Date is May 1. You must send in confirmation that you will be attending the university by this date. Be prepared to pay the housing deposit.
Waitlists remain active until the incoming class is full but should not be used after August 1. The offer of admission should be a written letter or through electronic communication.
Keep your grades up! Low grades could result in an admission letter being rescinded.
June:
Order your official high school transcript to be mailed to your college
If you took courses at COS, order an official transcript from them to be sent to your college
