Advisory Committees

What are advisory committees?

Besides the requirement to hold advisory committee meetings for school districts receiving CTE funding, advisory committees connect industry and schools. Advisory committees contain various industry and community stakeholders, including the district/school/CTE pathway teachers.

The Advisory committee's responsibility is to "advise" through 1) evaluating the effectiveness of CTE programs; 2) studying and making recommendations to help solve problems regarding CTE programs; 3) identifying industry standards for new equipment, facilities, and teacher support; 4) assist in supporting suitable work-based learning experiences and events (i.e., guest speakers, industry tours, job shadows, mentorships, internships, etc.); 5) attract, encourage, and advertise support and interest in district CTE programs; and 6) obtain sponsors for funds for awards, scholarships, or needed equipment and supplies that are useful in carrying out classroom activities and the Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) or other CTE related youth programs.

Please contact our College and Career Readiness Department (559.730.7510) if you are interested in serving on an advisory committee.

Visalia Partners in Education (VPIE)

VPIE is the "umbrella" Career Technical Education (CTE) advisory organization for Visalia Unified School District. It started in 2002 as a partnership between VUSD, the Visalia Chamber of Commerce, the Visalia Economic Development Corporation, and local businesses.

Besides its CTE advisory function, VPIE represents a collective commitment by the district and industry partners to support CTE programs district wide. This commitment is realized through allocating district funds to support CTE programs and, in turn, industry partners' commitment for in-kind, time/involvement in work-based learning, or monetary support.

VPIE aims to improve, enhance, and enrich VUSD CTE programs.
