Student Prevention and Intervention
SSIP Staff Members are specially trained in student prevention and intervention practices and utilize a number of different prevention and life-skills curricula to support students they are working with. Below is a list of the various curricula used and training received by SSIP Staff to support their mentoring work with VUSD students:

Handle With Care - VUSD Training Network
SSIP Staff utilize their training experience and curricula to provide ongoing one-one-one and small-group mentoring and life-counseling for students enrolled in SSIP. Students may be identified by site administration, teachers or other school-site staff as beneficial candidates for enrollment in SSIP. Meetings with students typically take place during passing periods, at break, the lunch hour and/or before and after school and at times, during instruction.
SSIP Staff are also trained in supporting overall school safety, climate and culture. SSIP Staff specialize in violence prevention and de-escalation, conflict-resolution, pro-social skill building, resource-brokering, family advocacy and support, are mandated reporters and serve as a support liaison between students and their teachers.
SSIP Staff work schedules for Full-Time are 7:30am to 4:30pm and for Part-Time are 11:00am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
