"4-H programming with youth is guided by an experiential learning process that includes goal setting, cognition, practice, and performance. The performance stage is when members demonstrate what they have learned through various 4-H activities and events, including competitions. Competition can be an individual event against a standard (Danish System), an individual event against peers (Standard System), or team vs. team competitions."
The James City County 4-H Communications & Arts Contest provides 4-H members with an opportunity to develop and practice communication, creativity, leadership, and career-readiness skills in a supportive competitive environment.
This contest is designed to:
Build confidence in public speaking and performance
Encourage creative expression through the arts
Strengthen workforce-ready skills such as resume writing and professional communication
Prepare members for participation in district- and state-level 4-H contests
Give youth opportunities to build towards their Achievement Plans and All-Star selection
Contest guidelines are adapted from the Southeast District 4-H Contest rules, with modifications appropriate for a unit-level event.
