James City 4-H is a part of a larger organization within Virginia Tech & Virginia State called Virginia Cooperative Extension. Within this organization, there are six 4-H Centers across the state that are assigned to localities based on geographic area. We are lucky to camp at the only Virginia 4-H Center alongside a river, the beautiful Jamestown 4-H Educational Center in Jamestown (Williamsburg), Virginia.
Campers are assigned to either lodges that house 6 rooms with 8 beds, or cabins that house 2 camper rooms with 14 beds. Cabins/lodges are air-conditioned and heated. Each lodging area has its own indoor bathroom with toilets and showers. Each lodge or cabin also has at least 2 adults in a space for emergencies and supervision purposes.
The center provides trained staff who remain on site for 10 weeks of the summer and lead the educational programming from week to week. These staff are generally college age young adults who undergo a series of trainings in supervision, youth development, and emergency preparedness. They are AMAZING at what they do and work under the Leadership Team of the 4-H Center, including usually some full-time, Virginia Tech employees who oversee the camping programs, education material, and training of staff.
An EMT and/or nurse as well as MAT certified staff are on site throughout the camp week and the summer.
