I learned about the detention center, also known as the jail, and the history of the White Terror in Taiwan. Making this made me understand more about Doctor Chen, who was imprisoned during the White Terror. Lastly, I learned about how to make a game outline and analyze information that is needed in the games.
I contributed with another teammate to make Doctor Chen's background story.
I learned that making a outline is group work and the game outlines need to have different things according to your genre. You will also need to add character backgrounds stories. For the Pecha Kucha, you can't really use words which let me learned about the importance of visuals and not look to the presentation but look at the audience.
I contributed the photos and told my team what we needed to do.
I learned about the rights of migrants. Migrants are normally paid unwell, especially caregivers, who aren't included in the labor law so they don't have a law to control them. This means their boss can abuse them, don't give them breaks and even pay them very less. So for the outline, I made the idea on what game type we should have, which is like a action choosing game.
My group added more scenes to our migrants game. Our final outline is based on our 3rd outline but improved. We added some scenes that will happen in the game and we also made part of our unity games. We also added new research and included them in our new game that is useful and can make our game better. We also received suggestions such as not using drunk man saying racist things because it might be too specific. I contributed mostly on the unity game and also some parts of the scenes
In my interview, I learned that our games needs lots of improvements. For example, I needed to add more options to one question is one of the feedback the interviewee gave me. I also learned that we can add a lot more questions that migrants face because they face lots of problems everyday. The most important takeaway is adding more options to questions that make more sense in modern life. For example, if you aren't sure to buy something, you can buy it, or leave it but we can also double check to see if we need to buy it.
At first, we were coming up with an idea for our final outline, which is our game. We chose to improve our 3rd outline, the migrant outline because we think that it was the best and most complete one. After that we started to improve the outline and starting to make the scenes of the game and the game itself. Last but not least is finalizing the game and attending the exhibition also showing off our game we made.
If I had a chance to redo our PBL project, I would add more variety to our game. For example, I would want to add some animation and maybe some different interactives instead of only pressing buttons. I would also maybe add some animation and make the game more enjoyable.
I will remember the skill I learnt in this PBL game and the class and I would use maybe a similar idea for my other PBL classes and use the unity again if I needed to make another game.
