What are some goals I want to achieve by the end of the school year? There are three main types of goals to achieve. The first one is academic goals, which are goals for school. My goal is to improve my essay writing skills. This is because in Junior High, even though my first paper, which includes comprehension, listening, and grammar, received a high score, my essay writing pulled my overall score down. This is why I need to improve my writing to not pull my score down but lift it. The second goal is the personal goal. I want to manage my time better because I sometimes get off task and don't get back on task. When I finally get back on task, the class is almost finished, and I didn’t finish my work that I was supposed to do, so it will become homework, which I don’t want to do. Last but not least is the community goal. I think the most important thing is supporting group work. If one person is not contributing might cause the whole group to fail. I don’t want to be the person who pulls everyone down, so I will contribute work to my groups.
For this assignment, we wrote about one specific event in The Hunger Games. I wrote about when Katniss's dad died in a mine explosion and what happened to their family after that. The Lit analysis is what is the author's point of view of this event.
We did this presentation about The Hunger Games character Peeta on if his actions or strategic or genuine. Most of the people in our class to not trust Peeta, which means most of his actions are strategic. My pair chose to trust Peeta because we think he is very genuine because he is very honest.
Critical Thinking
This connects to non English classes by teaching me how to make arguments against somethings and opinions. For example is debating and we can give out useful reasons that we can use and helpful and supportive to our topic.
Growth
This assignment builds on my previous assignments by letting me learn how to write better and add details. Adding details means adding specific examples, more evidence. I will try to be more specific on my other writings to improve my score.
Depth of Literary Analysis
I improved by knowing what keywords to use and what types of information is trusted and I can use. Normally, I only use information I find on wikipedia and the easy ones to find. But then I found out that you need to find different point of views for the same topic.
Perspective-Taking & Bias Recognition
Bias is almost impossible to not have in any sort of media or books. This helps us learn about what others feel and their perspective. This is useful for different topics and helpful to our thoughts on what is right or wrong.
Ethical Reflection & Personal Growth
I first thought that justice wasn't really important but now I feel like everyone should have the right of justice and freedom. The novel changed my perspective because it's very important. It taught me that everyone needs to have freedom and rights. It's just like our PBL class learning about rights.
General Reflection
For this project, my work habits improved by checking google classroom every day to know what I need to work on. Before doing this project, I never really looked at my Gmail and google classroom and I just try to remember what is supposed to be handed in which day.
I want to strengthen my writing so I can get better grade on writing. My grade are often okay at around 70 to 80 but my writing is the one that keeps lowering my grade. This is why I set my goal to improving my writing so I can get a higher grade.
I used feedback to improve by adding more information to my writing. For example, "Betrayal is very common in The Hunger Games. " Before I wrote this sentence, it was "Betrayal has a high percentage in The Hunger Games." After the teachers advice to use more common because it sounds better and easier to understand, I changed it because I think it's good feedback. One example is when my teacher told me I needed to add more details I added more and tried my best to elaborate.
My GSP reflects my use of grammar pretty well. Also, my GSP is easy to follow and I even have titles. I think that the layout of our GSP is very important. If the layout was really messy, you wouldn't be able to find the topic on what you're looking for.
Media Project
Girls in Taiwan and around the world faces problems of finding jobs and getting paid less then man. This is what problem we are trying to show about gender inequality.
They have grown for helping me stay on task because of the deadline and the project we need to finish. The feedback I got from my peers is to change the captions on our video because some of them is wrong. I didn't check it which lead to wrong captions and some lines hard to understand.
I became more skilled at listening to others opinions because I think my classmates have some interesting and creative ideas which I never thought about. If I didn't listen to them, I might have lost points for the project.
It helped me understand more on how other people feel about each situation and we should put ourselves in their shoes when we think this show is entertaining when the others are suffering. Because I learned this, I can understand others emotions and help them better.
