In science class, most of the things are the ones I have learned but just translated in English, but the most important thing I believe is doing projects and presentations to have a deeper understanding of that chapter. The Ecosystem and Geology Eco-House Site is one of the project that we did, we find that different places can have different kinds of environment and how it affects people's living. For instance places that have a lot of sun can use a lot of windows to support that building which it could save energy while maintaining warmth in the building. Geography is a class that affects where and how to build a house, the climate the wind blow and how much rain that place has all makes houses different from one another. So in science class we are required to make an eco house and this project helps us understand where, how to build up the house. This helps me in the future to decide where I should build my eco house and how I should build it. Another subject that connects to this chapter is math, because we need to learn how to read those graphs, and different axis will tell us different information, so we need to understand what the graph is talking about. On PBL, we are talking about social justice issues, and making the environment a better place can help some minorities live better since we are trying not to hurt the ecosystem and live with it. People who lives in the mountains may benefit from this, because we invented a way to live peacefully with the environment.
Wind energy is a renewable source of energy that provides environmental, social, and economic benefits. However, it also has several challenges and trade-offs that must be considered. First reason why it is beneficial is that it is very environmental which means that producing this kind of energy doesn't need any fossil fuel burning since all of it is depended by the wind itself which is very natural. Putting it on environmental example, Taiwan would be a best option to talk about. Taiwan is an independent island surrounded by water, which means that is has a lot of offshore wind, this leads to Taiwan developing wind turbines to reduce fossil fuel use, since they have a lot of wind that they can use and it is free and beneficial for the environment. On to some benefits for the economy, this kind of energy does not cost even one penny, since all it is using is the wind that we have everyday and can be used infinitely. This also benefits more job opportunities for those who needs a job. Take Texas as an example: the wind industry is the largest in the US with a total of 28%, and this funds also more than 27,000 jobs in that state. Lastly is about the social part, this kind of energy is social friendly as it does not have any pollutions that can harm the people in that area, so it may be a double win since they can get clean energy and make the world a better place by reducing fossil fuel use. One example is Uruguay, they have a very advance system that is very eco friendly and also good for their citizens. Their system already created more than 50,000 jobs, and even in the rural areas there are also this technology being seen, which means that they are promoting this kind of energy throughout the whole country and is very much a success as right now.
However there are still some tradeoffs when people are building it and how effective is the energy, since all of it is natural so sometimes it is unpredictable if the energy is enough for the community or not, so it may not have the same stability than those we are mainly using right now. Using the same three points, environment, economy and social as reasons, it can make these turbines hard to survive and costly. First is environmental, wind turbines are very large and takes up a lot of space so normally it couldn't be putted in cities and only in rural areas. But this also causes problems to those animals that live there, for instance Norway has wind turbines in their rural areas but these turbines were built on land used by Indigenous Sami reindeer herders. They migrate there to get food and live, but those wind turbines made them have an inbalance habitat and need to find another place to survive while also not getting affected by people which disrupts the ecosystem since they damaged the land around and beneth it.
