While making the map, I learned how to organize information visually and see how different ideas or places connect to one another. It helped me realize that mapping makes complex topics easier to understand by breaking them into clear sections. This skill can support me in academics by helping with studying, brainstorming, or outlining essays. In life, it can also be useful for planning goals, projects, or even personal decisions in a more structured way.
While my teammates and I made our map and flag, I learned how geography, culture, and economy can be connected. Drawing this map helped me understand why people live in certain areas, why people choose to live in warmer places than places like Antarctica or the Arctic, just because it is near the resources and can be better for living, since resources like water are frozen by the cold weather. Creating the flag made me think about how symbols can represent history and culture. This project will help me in the future with real-world problems and decisions by using geometry.
While creating our map and comic, I saw how the economy can be unfair in different places. In the outer areas (the Periphery), it is hard to get resources, but in the central area (the main part of our map), it makes most of the money. Making the map helped me learn how these reigons depend on each other and how distance can make things more expensive and unequal. This project helped me understand economy can be successful and stable, everyone needs a fair share of the profits, which is something I can use in real life when thinking about jobs and world trade.
Copy-paste of one person's feedback: What is one thing you think the team needs to: explain the economic policy better.
What specific question would you ask this team?: How will you communicate your ideas through your skit/performance smartly and effectively?
What was the absolute best thing about this team: The variety of colours they used on their maps.
Reflection: Presenting our Atlas project, we found that the maps were visually appealing and received positive feedback from students. However, we need to improve our explanations of concepts, as some students were confused about our economic policies. This experience taught us that clear explanations are just as important as beautiful visuals.
Improvements: To explain our economic policies, we can add a simple legend to the map. This key can list our main economic goals and how different parts, such as schools, contribute to the country's economy.
A copy and paste of 1 person's feedback: Rose: It is clear and stands out to me. Everything gets the connection between history and today's Brain Drain. Thorn: The ending stops too fast. Have a good conclusion.
Reflection: Working on this project really showed me how history doesn't just stay in the past; it's part of why so many people are leaving the Philippines today, especially when it comes to things like language and education. I also saw how important it is to connect different parts of a story, like culture and money, and politics, instead of just focusing on one. Getting feedback reminded me that even if your research is good, people still need a strong ending to really get what you are saying. Next time, I will make sure my conclusion doesn't just stop; it can make people think.
How can this project help me in either other classes or outside of school: This project helped me see how history and current issues connect, which I can use in social studies or English when writing arguments. Outside of school, it taught me how to present complex topics understandably and compellingly to others.
