We really love hearing from you all so keep sending us those emails each week to 5thclassteachers@virginians.ie
Hello Everyone in 5th class,
We hope you are all keeping safe and well and are busy working on the blog while also getting plenty of fresh air and exercise.
Thank you to everyone who got in contact with us again last week. We really enjoyed reading all of your emails, hearing your news and viewing some of your fabulous work. You will find some of the excellent work the boys and girls in 5th class have completed so far on ‘Our Amazing Gallery’ page which is now located on the menu at the left side of the blog page. You will also see tabs for previous blog pages there if you wish to look back through them.
Two new additions to the blog this week are the ‘Challenge Yourself’ page and the ‘Relax, Unwind and Read’ page. Both are located at the bottom of the menu on the left. Keep an eye on these pages for exciting activities and updates that are sure to keep you busy.
We would really like it if you could stay in contact with us by sending us an email at least once a week. Again, it can be to say a quick ‘hello’, to share some of your news or to show us some of your lovely work. So keep those emails coming in to us at: 5thclassteachers@virginians.ie If you would like to see your work uploaded on the blog don’t forget to send parental permission.
Below you will see this week’s blog where we have uploaded some new activities for you to work on throughout the week.
Again, everything does not need to be completed, just try your best.
We have added some lovely mindfulness activities to the bottom of this week’s blog which you may like to try. We would also love it if you could click on the following link to fill out this short questionnaire based on the things you like. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfHoRGXNFaIO43cl_T83r-EDWg42FF56za1I5U4yP4_fvjhWA/viewform

Stay safe,
Ms. Brady and Ms. O’Reilly
Read the following comprehension from your Reading Zone called ‘Go Bananas!’ and answer any 2 sections from A- G.
As you can see it gives you the recipe for banana pancakes which you may like to try out at home. This is linked to this week’s Maths where we are learning about weight so make sure you measure out the ingredients correctly.
Procedural writing is a set of step-by-step instructions to establish a way of doing something or to accomplish a goal.
Using the template provided (Or using your copybook) write a procedure for something of your choice. It can be a recipe for something or instructions on how to use something. Eg. a recipe for scones, how to make a salad sandwich, how to brush your teeth, how to cycle a bike etc.
Have a look at the following information on how to write a procedure and what to include.
Go through this checklist when you have finished writing your procedure to make sure you have included everything.
You will find attached some activities to complete based on weight. Then if you are feeling creative we have attached recipes for play-dough and queen cakes that you might like to try out. Don’t forget the banana pancakes recipe in the English section too! Remember to measure out the ingredients carefully and adult supervision is required when using utensils and the oven. We would love to see pictures of your finished creations!

The Olympics 2020 were due to take place in Tokyo this summer but due to Covid-19 they have been postponed and will take place next year. With this in mind we would like you to view the information below based on the Olympics and then design a project based on an Olympic athlete of your choice.
The athlete you chose can be from any country, participate in any sport and can have taken part in any Olympics.
Here is a list of athletes you may like to choose from. You can research someone who is not on this list if you prefer.
Katie Taylor (Boxing) Simone Biles (Gymnastics)
Usain Bolt (Athletics) Gary and Paul O’Donovan (Rowing)
Michael Phelps (Swimming) Michael Jordan (Basketball)
Sonia O’Sullivan (Athletics) Mo Farrah (Distancing running)
Muhammad Ali (Boxing) Serena Williams (Tennis)
A well-known symbol of the Olympics are the Olympic Rings.
We would like you to design a new symbol for the Olympics. You can use the template of the Olympic rings attached and redesign them or you can come up with a completely different design. It’s your choice.
We hope you enjoyed the balancing activities last week.
This week we would like you to focus on gymnastic shapes and yoga poses.
Attached you will find some activities you can try out this week.
Remember to make sure the area you are practicing in is safe
before you start and that there are no obstacles in your way.
During this confusing and challenging time you may find yourself feeling a little bit worried or anxious. That is completely normal and understandable.
Attached you will find some breathing exercises that may help you to relax and also some activities to accompany the breathing exercises.
Look out your window. Draw what you see or use your imagination and draw what you would like to see
