Aboriginal Art focuses on creating pictures using dots. Take a look at the pictures attached for some inspiration for your own Aboriginal Art. You can draw an Australian animal or landmark or you can draw any image that pops into your head. You can use paint if you have some at home. Twistables or crayons will work just as well. Don't forget to send us in your finished creations!
We have received some fabulous projects over the last couple of weeks and are really proud of all the hard work our students in fifth class are putting into creating them. For the next two weeks we are going to finish with our last SESE project of the year.
Time to learn all about Australia!
For this project we are going to let you decide what type of project you are going to create on Australia. You can decide if you are going to focus on:
A native animal- kangaroo/koala
A famous attraction-The Gold Coast, The Blue Mountains, The Sydney Harbour Bridge, The Opera House, The 12 Apostles
A famous city- Sydney/Melbourne
A well-known person
Sport in the country
Something of your own choice!
We are really looking forward to seeing what approach some of you are going to take in completing your last SESE project in fifth class.
Your poster could contain a positive message, slogan or quote and a picture to go with it – something that makes you smile. It could contain drawings of things, activities or people that have brought you happiness during this time. We have included some sample slogans you could use below but feel free to make up your own of course! Be as creative as you would like.
We are asking that you send us a photo or scan of your completed poster to 5thclassteachers@virginians.ie by Friday 19th June. Every class will be putting their posters together to make one big collage of positivity that truly represents how strong and adaptable our fantastic pupils are! So the more entries we receive the better the final product will look. We really look forward to seeing all your creative entries.
Sample slogans and quotes for your poster:
§ Keep smiling!
§ Keep calm and carry on.
§ Difficult roads often lead to beautiful places.
§ “Don’t let what you can’t do stop you from doing what you can do.” – John Wooden
§ “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” – Theodore Roosevelt
§ "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It's about learning how to dance in the rain." – Vivian Greene

Recently we focused on the theme of wellness and well-being and created some activities around this particularly important topic. Some children engaged with the little questionnaire we put up as well so a special thank you to you all. This week for SPHE/Art we are asking everyone in fifth class to create a ‘Poster of Positivity’. We know that this is a challenging and difficult time for everyone so in creating this poster we hope that you will pick something that makes you happy and puts a smile on your face. We hope everyone will put in a big effort for us in creating these posters and sending them onto us whenever you get a chance. There is a more detailed description of this activity in the Art section below.
Remember to send us in your completed work and if you would like to see it on the blog make sure you send parental permission. We would love to hear from each and every one of you this week. We miss you all so much!

Complete the flower template below by filling the petals with all the different activities you would like to do over the summer holidays. In the middle of the flower you could write about the first thing you are going to do when you get the summer holidays.
Using all the letters of the alphabet write a short sentence about all the things you have done/complete during your time off. If you can’t think of something for all the letters write down something you would like to do during your summer holidays instead. Remember all the activities you completed on the blog as well, they may be useful. E.g. A- A walk with my family
Create an acrostic poem using the word ‘Summer’ or a rhyming poem about Summer. Try to make your poem unique and interesting.
Try and solve the following Maths riddles. Think carefully about them before making your final guess!
Try your best to break the code! Solve the calculations and make note of the letters. The words should all relate to summer time.
Fill in the correct times shown on each of the clocks to help plan the holiday. You may have to draw the hands of the clock yourself. You can complete these activities in your busy copy.
Time to recap on the topic of feelings and emotions. Draw the emotions/feelings on each face. You made need to use your Irish dictionaries to help you with some of the feelings. Remember you can complete all these written/drawing activities in your busy copy.
Write your name into the first piece of the puzzle (bottom left). Write five full sentences about yourself ‘as Gaeilge’ in each of the other puzzle pieces. Some things you could base your sentences on- your age, people in your family, hobbies you like, what class you are in, your friends etc.
Have a read through this PowerPoint to learn more about 'An Samhradh'. Maybe you will recognise some of the words or maybe you will learn some new vocabulary.

Try and walk/jog 1km each day of the week. By Friday you should have 5km! There are also 6 other activities (3 on each card) you could complete as part of active week. Try and finish them all by Friday!
Encourage some of your family to get on board for active week and play some family races. For example: egg and spoon races, sack races or three-legged races and see how you all get on. To make the races more challenging you could time yourself and try to beat your time each time you play.
Try out these extra challenges for some fun! We would love to hear how you get on with your activities during active week.
Complete this simple gratitude scavenger hunt. You should make note of the eight different things you choose/find.
Try out some of these mindful colouring sheets to rest and relax. If you are unable to print the sheets you could always create you own mindful colouring page.
We thought it would be nice for you to try and be kind to five times this week. Fill in each day below when you have completed your act of kindness. Remember you can be kind to the same person more than once.
Remember you can also create your very own 'Poster of Positivity'. More details in relation to this activity are in the art section further up this page.
Design and make your own musical instrument.

1. Cut 8 straws into different lengths.
2. Arrange them from shortest to longest and make sure that they are level at the top.
3. Tape them together with Sellotape.

5. Try playing a tune.
People who are deaf cannot hear sounds, but they can still feel vibrations. Evelyn Glennie is a world-famous drummer who is also deaf. She makes music by feeling the vibrations made by her instruments. People who are deaf can also dance by feeling the vibrations of music. Deaf people can talk to each other with sign language. Can you spell your full name in sign language?
Why not try and make your own fruit smoothie! It would be lovely to have during the nice weather.
These are great fun and can be a real challenge! If you like this one check out tableQuiz.net
Create your very own Boomerang to link in with our learning of Australian.
We thought you might enjoy completing a maths trail this week linking to the topics of nature and active week. Try your best to complete each of the tasks below.
