Class overview
IB Visual Arts is a thought-provoking course in which students develop analytical skills in learning about art and making connections to their own art, while working towards technical proficiency and confidence as artists. In addition to exploring and comparing visual arts from different perspectives and in different contexts, students are expected to engage in, experiment with, and critically reflect upon a wide range of contemporary practices and media.
IB Visual Arts is a Group 6 Course in the IB Diploma Program. This course is for students who want to go on to study visual arts in higher education as well as those seeking lifelong enrichment through visual arts.
Course Structure:
There are 3 parts of the Exam and on-going coursework that you will engage in throughout the course.
Standard Level 1 Year, Higher Level 2 Years
Comparative Study 20% of IB score
Process Portfolio 40% of IB score
Exhibition 40% of IB score
BIG IDEAS:
This course focuses on big ideas of IB Visual Arts.
Investigate artwork by others to inspire and inform your own artwork.
Develop visual ideas and create plans based on experiments with media.
Create artworks based on synthesis of ideas, media, and intentions.
Reflect on the artmaking process to review and refine your art.
Compare and contrast artwork by others in considering cultural context and significance, analyzing the formal qualities, and interpreting the function and purpose.
