Explain application and importance of the design of the artwork. Select 4-5 design qualities that are dominant. Here is a resource for reference.
conceptual analysis (ideas behind the work and how the artist chose to express ideas)
material analysis (how the work was made and why the media and technique are important to the artwork). This may be media used at the time, cultural way of working, new way of working, techniques based on the time period, availability of materials, etc.
Interpretation of Function and Purpose (research based)
Why was the artwork made?
Who paid for it to be made or who owns it now?
Was it created for a specific location or exhibition?
Who is the audience?
Consider the meaning of the work and why the artist made it. Discuss the subject matter in the work and symbolism
Evaluation of Cultural Significance (research based)
How does this artwork reflect the cultural and time period in which it was created?
How did this art impact the culture/ the way people think?
What helps us to understand the artwork.
What was going on in the world when this artwork was made?
Tips and reminders:
Include images and text. Consider showing "zoomed in" details of the artworks as relevant to your analysis.
Label ALL images with information and the citation.
Include Informational Source citations on the bottom of each slide AND add them to your Works Cited Slide and Doc
Be sure you are using multiple sources and credible sources!
You can type this as a narative, create a chart for each section, use text boxes, use bullet points, etc.
