Comparative Study SL & HL
The comparative study is an externally examined assessment task worth 20% of your IBVA Exam. It is a critical and contextual investigation of meanings and practices of art from different times and cultures.
Formal requirements
SL
SL students submit 10–15 screens, which examine and compare at least three artworks, objects or artifacts, at least two of which need to be by different artists.
The works selected for comparison and analysis should come from differing cultural contexts.
SL students submit a list of sources used.
HL
HL students submit 10–15 screens, which examine and compare at least three artworks, objects or artifacts, at least two of which need to be by different artists.
The works selected for comparison and analysis should come from differing cultural contexts.
HL students submit 3–5 screens, which analyse the extent to which their work and practices have been influenced by the art and artists examined.
HL students submit a list of sources used.
CS Tips:
Type your CS in Google Slides and add to that same slideshow for each step
*Visually organized screens/slides that are easy to read (10pt font or larger), and interesting/ appealing: include images and text on every slide
Include lots of images and details, but only those that are relevant (show your reader what you are writing about)
Be sure to use academic grammar, punctuation, and visual arts vocabulary
REQUIRED:
*MLA citations on each screen for ALL IMAGES and ALL INFORMATIONAL SOURCES
*Keep a running list of sources for your Works Cited Doc on a separate Doc that you will submit in addition to your final CS.
