Standard 2 - Content Area and Pedagogical Knowledge - The competent teacher has in-depth understanding of content area knowledge that includes central concepts, methods of inquiry, structures of the disciplines, and content area literacy. The teacher creates meaningful learning experiences for each student based upon interactions among content area and pedagogical knowledge, and evidence-based practice.
In the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards, one of the knowledge indicators to be a competent teacher states the following:
Understands the relationship among language acquisition (first and second), literacy development, and acquisition of academic content and skills (2H).
In my WIDA lesson plan I created an in depth lesson that included mostly ELL students. Thus, this lesson plan's target students were those who are emerging in literacy. Language acquisition is a must to know to be able to complete this lesson for students' success. Linked below is the Emergent Literacy Lesson Plan:

In the images below, you can see the resources I provided for students to learn more about place value. I used both physical and digital base 10 blocks . Allowing me to make this unit more accessible to students with disabilities and students who might need more tools to understand. I alos provided higher level students with more difficult examples, giving theem the opportunity to challenge their own thinking.Â
