Hello! My name is Zain Fakhoury and I am a first grade Arabic Bilingual ELA Teacher. I graduated from Trinity Christian College with a bachelor's degree and licensures in Elementary Education with minors in English as a Second Language and Bilingual Arabic. My goal is to create an inclusive, engaging, and culturally responsive learning environment where all students feel valued and motivated to succeed. I set high expectations, encouraging students to be independent and responsible lifelong learners who are able to problem solve both in and out of the classroom. I am able to differentiate lessons to meet the diverse needs of my students by incorporating Total Physical Response, EL Scaffolding (translanguaging, sound walls, and visuals), social-emotional learning, technology integration, and a focus on holistic education.
As an ELA Curriculum Committee member, I am able to collaborate with fellow educators and administrators to design and make changes to the district’s curriculum that aligns with Common Core State Standards, WIDA Standards, and SEL. I also teach the ELA after school program at Sorrick school for newcomers. I was the president and founder of the International Student Club on my college campus. As well as a leader in Asian-American Alliance, Women Empowered, and Future Teacher's Association. I am passionate about advocating for English Language Learners, immigrants, and refugees, especially from Arabic-speaking communities.
