knows assessment and progress monitoring techniques to assess the effectiveness of instruction for each student (7I).
I taught a unit about poetry and wanted to see student's progress with learning about poetry. My ELL newcomers and my whole class were going to write a poem. I had the same goal for both groups of my students, I just differentiated the assignment and the rubric. Attached below is the assessment I used to assess the effectiveness of my instruction to my whole class. Despite the differences in the rubric, I still was able to assess my students to see their understanding of poetry.
In the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards, one of the performance indicators to be a competent teacher states the following:
involves students in self-assessment activities to help them become aware of their strengths and needs and encourages them to establish goals for learning
Attached below is a copy of the self-assessment I gave to my students to take before parent-teacher conferences. Not only did this allow students to see their ow strengths, but it also helped parents see how their child views themselves. Attached below is the self-assessment.
