What We Do

新型コロナウイルス感染拡大に伴い、世界各国で学習権の保障や教育機会へのアクセスに課題があることが明らかになりつつも、十分な対策が取られているとはいえない状況です。特に社会経済的に弱い立場に立つ移民生徒への影響が大きいという調査結果があります。日本国内でも、外国人高校生は、情報へのアクセスの難しさ、日本語を含めた学習機会の乏しさ、家族の失業・休業による生活困窮、メンタルヘルスの問題などが顕在化しており、外国人生徒の多様なニーズに早急に応えることが必要です。

本プロジェクトでは、外国人の高校生が、どうコロナ禍を過ごしているのか。どのような課題を抱えているのか。そこには外国ルーツの若者だからこそ、見えてくる視点や解決策があります。わたしたちは、コロナ禍により外国人高校生の生活・学業・進路などにどのような影響があったのか、若者参加型アクションリサーチ（Youth Participatory Action Research: YPAR）という方法を用いて、当事者である外国人の若者と共にリサーチを行ってきました。

In the wake of the spread of Covid-19, it has become clear that there are challenges in ensuring the right to learn and access to educational opportunities in countries around the world, but insufficient measures are being taken. Research has shown that immigrant students, who are in a weaker socio-economic position, are particularly affected. In Japan as well, foreign high school students are facing difficulties in accessing information, lack of learning opportunities including Japanese language, impoverishment due to family members' unemployment or absence from work, and mental health problems, and it is necessary to respond to the diverse needs of foreign students as soon as possible.

In this project, based on Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) approach, we explored the impact of the COVID-19 on foreign high school students' studies, lives, and career paths, in collaboration with immigrant youth researchers.
